In Cupertino should be cheerful: despite well-established services like Spotify continue to war, Apple Music is growing at a good pace and reaches 30 million paid subscribers. Three months ago the figure was 27 million, so that about one million new subscribers are captured each month.
This growth, according to Billboard, has contributed to revenues in the US music sales market growing 17% during the first half of 2017 and the same time period in 2016. In other words, many people continue to move to the model of music streaming.
Those 30 million users at Apple Music are not bad, but we must remember that Spotify has twice as many paid users and several million more users in the free mode of advertising service. That is precisely one of their best tricks, since it costs less to attract the user to pay when from the outset can try the service for free.
At the moment, "there is room" for both services to continue growing. There are still many people who can make the leap to subscriptions, so right now the race is to see who is the one who manages to attract more people to his service. The real competition will come when we all use streaming, and to grow we have to steal subscribers to the rival.
